Get the Best Possible Sound
The Performidi® platform is designed to simplify the recording process and ensure you get the best-sounding performance for your music. Our unique Audition + Collaboration process helps you find the ideal musician for your project and then work together to create the sound you're looking for.
As with any collaborative process, it is crucial to come to a consensus on vision, artistic direction, and project expectations upfront. Once the project has started, maintaining communication and providing feedback is key. Below is a list of best practices to ensure you get the ideal performance and make the biggest impact on your music:
Write Descriptive Notes
Performidi messages and project notes are not restricted by a character count. Comprehensive, in-depth notes on playing style and intensity, swing and rhythm, and preferences for different sections lead to better auditions and recordings.
Upload Accurate MIDI Files
If you want the musician to play more quietly during a certain section and more intensely during another, your project's uploaded MIDI file should reflect that. MIDI files should be as close as possible to your intended performance. This would also apply, for example, if you wanted the musician to perform a certain section behind the beat and then perform another section on beat.
Provide a Scratch Track
Although scratch tracks are not required to create a project, they are recommended to provide musicians with better context for the musical and rhythmic phrasing of their audition. It helps them 'get in the pocket'. A rough bounce of your current project will do. Your musical ideas, compositions, and files are safe with Performidi — Performers sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) that prevents them from sharing or uploading your music.
Communicate During Revisions
After reviewing and selecting your favorite audition, if you need a revision, make sure to use the Messaging feature in the Project Page to provide feedback and set expectations with the musician. You can open up your messages by pressing Request Revision in the musician's Audition Playback. Answer any questions or provide clarification to ensure you get the recording you're looking for. Or, send and confirm bids and project specs for additional revisions.
Download Multiple Auditions for Huge Stereo Width
Almost every song stands to benefit from double-tracking. With double tracks, you can add the authentic sound of a live instrumental duet to your music. Techniques like double-tracking, stacking, and layering help you achieve massive stereo width with no unintended phase issues. You can create harmonies or blend tones for the perfect studio sound.
Double-tracking is built right into Performidi. To download multiple auditions, use the Multiselect feature on the Project Page. After selecting the auditions you would like to download, click Download Audition. Or, if you've already selected and downloaded one audition and would like to select another for download, simply select the new audition and click Download Audition. Now that you've purchased another musician's audition recording, you can also work with the new musician on revisions.
